Inlay Workshop with Aaron Oya

Aaron Oya demonstrated his technique for inlay on ukuleles. Aaron has been doing custom inlay for Koaloha Ukuleles on Oahu. The workshop, held April 25 at member Dann Roark's workshop in the Kaloko Industrial Area (near Costco) was a great time had by all. Nearly 30 participants dug into a couple of exercises demonstrated by Aaron to show basic skills and solutions to common problem.

The Big Island Ukulele Guild’s Merrie Monarch Exhibit

The Big Island Ukulele Guild was  invited to participate in an exhibit at the Wailoa Center in downtown Hilo during the 2009 Merrie Monarch festival from April 11 to the 16th. Displayed Along-side our member’s ukuleles were Hawaiian quilts. We had a table set up with ukulele history, building materials, and BIUG information that will be manned by volunteers for the duration of the show.

Despite the Wailoa Center forgetting to mention us in their radio and media announcements, we had a good turn out and were invited back to display again next year during the Merry Monarch Festival. We hope to see you there and if you are a builder and wish to display, contact us for more information.
