Ukuleles for Young Musicians Project

The Big Island Ukulele Guild wishes to help deserving young players in need of their own instrument to continue their training.  In 2008 we started the project which resulted in 17 young musicians receiving a Koa Tenor ukulele made by members of the guild. As the project continues, we are accepting candidates for this years instruments. If you know of a young musician on the Big Island in need of an instrument, please contact us about receiving one of these ukes. They must meet the following requirements:

2008 Big Island Ukulele Guild Building Project

On Saturday 1/19/08, the Guild began a new ukulele building project. On Saturday 10/4/08 the project was completed. These ukes were built to support our Ukuleles For Young Musicians Project and they will all be donated to deserving young players. We built these ukes from scratch, using traditional techniques. Our membership includes people of all skill levels and experience. Our goal was to provide all members with the basic skills needed to construct an ukulele. We met every 6 weeks or so with demos and hands on work. Members completed the necessary work in their on workshops between sessions.  There are some photos and a directory of our sessions Here- New entry on 10/12/08
