Kahilu Theater Show

Big Island Ukulele Guild
Kahilu Theater Show Notes - 11/2015

The Big Island Ukulele Guild’s final exhibit of 2015 was a great success at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, thanks to Gary and Pat Cassel and a number of loyal guild volunteers.

Opening night festivities in the gallery featured the talented Alan Hale and Shirley and Bob Stoffer as they entertained guests knoshing on food provided by the theater staff.

Our show coincided with the theater’s 13th Annual Waimea ‘Ukulele and Slack Key Guitar Festival. The festival and the guild display were well attended and Gary estimated that more than 2000 attendees viewed our 30 instruments during the show’s run in November. Dave Lockard made a sale at the show and parted with one of his beautiful ukuleles.

Visitors wandered through the gallery looking at our stringed instruments while enjoying performances by jazz ukulele player Benny Chong, slack key masters Ledward Kaapana, Jeff Peterson and Sonny Lim, bassist Nathan Aweau, lap steel guitar great Bobby Ingano and chamber group ‘El Mundo’ as it played old and new world Latin music from the 16th to 19th centuries. And Nell Snaidas of El Mundo played an early baroque guitar the size of an ukulele - even tuned G-C-E-A.

Hope to see you all at next year’s event!
