Day 2
On Saturday Feb. 16th the Big Island Ukulele Guild held the 2nd session of our 2008 Ukulele Building Project. This session covered neck blank glue up, cutting sides to length and gluing in the blocks, rosette installation, and lining installation. Unfortunately, the time and format of the workshop did not allow for a complete pictorial. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to e-mail me at pegasusguitars@hawaiiantel.net Here a few photos from the workshop.
Beginning the glue-up of the scarf joint headstock.
Jointing the sides of the neck prior to adding the ears to widen the headstock.
Router jig for cutting rosettes and soundholes. Base has holes at fixed points which fit over a pin on the workboard in the middle of the soundhole. A jig like this works very well when rosettes or soundholes of specific sizes are repeatedly made.
Rosette installation.
Thicknessing the plates.
Measuring and cutting the sides to length.
Gluing the neck and tailblocks.
